Frequently Asked Questions

This is where you will find most answers. If there should still be any questions left, don’t hesitate to contact us.
What time are your Sunday worship services?

St. Helena’s offers 3 unique services each Sunday at 7:45am, 9:00am, & 11:00am.

What will I experience in a typical 7:45am Sunday worship service at St. Helena’s?

The 7:45am service is a traditional, spoken (no music), Episcopal service which includes scripture reading, sermon, prayers, and celebration of the Holy Eucharist (communion).  It is held in the beautiful historic sanctuary.  The service lasts about 45 minutes and is generally attended by 30-50 people.

What will I experience in a typical 9:00am Sunday worship service?

This service is held in the Great Room of Wendler Hall.  It includes contemporary Christian music accompanied by guitars, and vocalists.  The service includes music, scripture reading, children’s sermon, sermon, prayers, and Holy Communion.  It is informal but follows a traditional Episcopal worship pattern.

What will I experience in a typical 11:00am Sunday worship service?

The 11:00am service is held in the Historic Sanctuary and is traditional.  Music is led by a traditional choir and accompanied by pipe organ and piano.  Our clergy, choir, and worship leaders wear vestments.  This service includes:  traditional hymns, scripture reading, children’s sermon, sermon, prayers, and Holy Communion.

Who can take communion at St. Helena’s?

We welcome all baptized Christians, regardless of age, denomination, tradition, or background to receive the sacrament of bread and wine at all our worship services.

Are children welcome in worship? Is childcare provided?

Yes and yes!  One of St. Helena’s core values is that children are seen and heard in our worship services.  We welcome children in worship, and 2 of our 3 services include children’s sermons just for them.  We also have a church nursery available for those parents who desire to use it.  Activity bags for children are available at all our worship services

Does St. Helena’s have an active Youth Group?

Yes.  St. Helena’s has 3 active youth groups which meet weekly on Wednesday evenings in the Youth House on Rock Street throughout the school year with special events in the summer months. They are led by Dawn McLendon, our Minister for Youth & Children.  See the Youth page for more information.

How can I arrange to get married at St. Helena’s?

Contact Amy Ryland in the parish office at 830-249-3228 or speak to one of our clergy.  St. Helena’s generally celebrates marriage for members of the parish, family of members, and for those who are intending to join our congregation.  Pre-marital counseling is an important part of preparation for marriage.  We do not rent out our facilities for weddings.

How can I arrange to have my child baptized?

We would love to baptize your child or other family member.  We generally celebrate baptisms once a month.  For more information about the dates and times, contact Amy Ryland, or one of our clergy at 830-249-3228 or rector@sthelenas.net.

How do I join St. Helena’s?

If you are already an Episcopalian, we can easily transfer your membership from your previous congregation.  Just e-mail us at rector@sthelenas.net and we will take care of it for you.  If you are new to the Episcopal tradition, we offer classes for new members in both the fall and spring.  New members are confirmed or received by the bishop when he visits twice each year.  E-mail us for more information about class dates.

We are a congregation of the Episcopal Diocese of West Texas. For more information, click the link above.
