YOUNG FAMILIES

The Young Families mission for our fellowship group is to connect people to God and one another. We are a community of young adults that range from 20s-40s made of singles, married couples, and couples with children. We strive to come together to grow in our faith and friendship with one another.

YOUNG ADULTS

The Young Adult Ministry (YAMs) of St. Helena’s is a casual gathering of folks in their mid-twenties to early-thirties. The YAMs share a longing for meaningful community, an appreciation for good food & good fun, and a desire to grow & serve. They meet about once a month for food, drinks, conversation, and what they lovingly call “weird Bible study.” Contact Cayce Mann for more information (cayce@sthelenas.net).

YOUNG & RESTLESS

This is a group of young adults (18-22+) who enjoy
gathering in various settings to share outreach projects, Bible study, fellowship and more.
For information, contact Dawn McLendon (dawn@sthelenas.net)

EMPTY NESTERS

Empty Nesters (aka Free Birds!) is a fellowship group geared toward couples and singles, whose children are out of the house, or almost out of the house, or who never had children in the house.  The Free Birds gather periodically at local venues for relaxation and fun! It is open to St. Helena’s Family members and their friends. Check the monthly calendar in Cross-Finder and watch for weekly Constant Contact communications about future gathering dates and locations. For more information, contact (cmasimmons@yahoo.com)

WOMEN OF THE CHURCH

Women’s Bible Study

Meets Fall and Spring to explore Scripture in an open friendly diverse environment where everyone’s questions are welcomed.

Women of St. Helena’s Quiet-ish Half Day

Quiet-ish retreats are held throughout the year, offering all women of all ages time to rest, rejuvenation, and find joy as we learn to walk more closely with Christ. These are held on Saturday mornings.  Please email jamie@sthelenas.net to learn more.

Women of St. Helena’s Retreats

St. Helena’s offers retreats each year to provide unique opportunities for women’s spiritual formation. Stay tuned for future retreat dates.

Decades Dinner (Next event in 2025)

At our Decades Dinner held this past Fall, more than 100 women were present. Selected women representing each adult decade of life spoke poignant truths and invited us into the celebration of this journey of life we walk together. The dinner joyfully raised funds for Transformation House.

MEN OF THE CHURCH

This organization is for all men who come to St. Helena’s, including newcomers.  We have a Men’s Bible Study that meets weekly on Thursday mornings at 7:30am in the Annex West building off Rock Street.  We also have a monthly dinner at someone’s home, usually a cookout. Contact Larry Kroeger at kroeger2@gvtc.com to learn more.

CHOIR

St. Helena’s has an adult choir and a children’s choice. There is no need to read music, just a love of singing.  See below for details about these groups and when they meet.

Looking for Opportunities to Serve?

The list below is comprised of the many groups in the parish that meet for fellowship and service. Please call the church office for phone and email contact information where not shown below.

  • ACOLYTES

Often, but not necessarily, children ages 9 and up assist the clergy during worship at all services. They have various roles such as crucifer, torchbearer, banner bearer, book bearer, candle lighter and server.   Contact:  Paul Johnson.

  • ALTAR GUILD

The guild is made up of parishioners who prepare the altar for Sunday services. This includes cleaning and setting up the vessels, altar hangings, linens and vestments for worship. This group is considered the housekeepers of the Lord.   Contact: Carol Matter

  • CHANCEL CHOIR

The St. Helena’s Adult Chancel Choir is a diverse group of people who love traditional music and good fellowship.  There is no need to read music or have a soloist’s voice as the choir is a blending of voices.  The choir rehearses on Wednesday evenings from 7:00 – 8:30 p.m. and sings at the 11:00 a.m. service in the Historic Sanctuary. Nursery is available upon request.

  • CONTEMPORARY WORSHIP TEAM

This ministry consists of vocalists and people who play guitars, drums, and keyboard for the 9:00am Worship Service.  Contact:  Bryce Boddie (bryce@sthelenas.net)

  • Lay EUCHARISTIC MINISTERS

This is for anyone who has a desire to assist the priests by reading the scripture lessons, prayers and assisting with administering the wine at communion at all three services. Training and scheduling is required.

  • ST. HELENA’S SINGERS

St. Helena’s Singers is a musical opportunity for 2nd – 8th grade students.  It fosters singing as a way to praise God, and teaches about church music and how it is used in the liturgical church year. As well as occasionally singing in the 11:00 service the students also enjoy taking part in a musical drama each spring. St. Helena’s Singers meet weekly on Wednesday evenings from 5:30 – 6:00 p.m.

  • USHERS

Parishioners who participate in this ministry play a very important role during each worship service. They assist in seating people, distributing bulletins and other information and by collecting the offering.
