Outreach Ministries

Outreach is one of our core values at St. Helena’s. We strive to seriously follow Jesus’ commands to love our neighbors, and so we reach out to meet the physical and emotional needs of the world. All our outreach ministries are outward focused, servant-minded, and rooted in love. You can read more about the guiding principles of our outreach here. If you have any questions about Outreach, contact Dawn.

  • TRANSFORMATION HOUSE

We partner with Transformation House, a local organization that provides safety, support, and transitional housing to women who have survived abuse. They use our campus for office space and special events, and we contribute financially to their mission. Recently, we celebrated our 140th birthday by raising over $100,000 to help them build a transitional home.

  • Wounded Knee

Over the past ten years, we have built a relationship with the Lakota people through Messiah Episcopal Church in Wounded Knee, SD — our sister church on the Pine Ridge reservation. We pray for their church members each week, regularly send youth and medical mission teams to support their buildings and bodies, and ship them care packages to help meet their material needs. When Messiah Church dreamed of hosting a food pantry for their community, we secured a shipping container, transformed it into an insulated pantry, and stuffed it with food to help them launch this ministry.

  • IMMIGRATION MINISTRY

We work with our Diocesan Immigration ministries to support asylum seekers as they move through the San Antonio area. We sponsored a family of Angolan refugees, assembled Christmas stockings for children in Matamoros, and prepared care packages to sustain refugees on their journey from San Antonio to their final destination.

  • MATY’S BOX

A small box stands at the corner of Rock St. and Main St., outside our Children and Youth Ministry Center. This small food pantry is open 24/7 for anyone to stop by and help themselves to food. Our church family faithfully keeps it stocked throughout the week. On average, we distribute over 2,000 cans of food and 40 Bibles through Maty’s Box each year.

  • LOCAL SCHOOLS

We strive to build up the students in our community, especially our neighbors at Boerne Middle School North. We take tacos to middle-schoolers playing basketball on our sport court, we partner with Blessings in a Backpack to ensure that students have food to eat over the weekend, we support various back-to-school initiatives that ensure students start the school year with new supplies and clothing, and we empower parents to give their children gifts for Christmas through the Boerne Angel Tree ministry.

  • COMMUNITY PARTNERSHIPS

We support a number of organizations who do good work in our community and beyond, including Alcoholics Anonymous, Narcotics Anonymous, Hill Country Family Services, Hill Country Daily Bread, Hill Country Pregnancy Care Center, and the World Missions department of the Diocese of West Texas.

  • RIP MEDICAL DEBT

Our youth group raised money to forgive medical debt in local communities, and challenged the parish to match their fundraising. In total, St. Helena’s forgave over $2,750,000 of medical debt in Kendall, Bandera, and Bexar counties in partnership with RIP Medical Debt.

Youth Ministry

St. Helena’s Youth Ministry strives to provide an environment where teens develop a strong sense of belonging and feel safe.  They can ask questions and learn more about the grace of Jesus. Through relationships with their peers and leaders, teens will develop a connectedness to the Body of Christ.

  • Middle School Youth group

Middle School Youth Group gathers in the Youth House on Wednesday afternoons from 4:15-5:30.  Together they explore scripture, through discussion, art, music, &  book study. They eat together and  grow faith-filled friendships. so we reach out to meet the physical and emotional needs of the world. All our outreach ministries are outward focused, servant-minded, and rooted in love. You can read more about the guiding principles of our outreach here. • Confirmation

Confirmation classes are held 6 weeks prior to the bishop’s visit to our church.  Dates and times are shared a month in advance.

  • Annually
