TOMMY MATHEWS

SR. WARDEN – CLASS OF 2026

Why I’m Excited

This is my third time to serve on the Vestry at St. Helena’s and I am more excited that both of my prior terms combined. We are growing and our journey as a congregation is carrying us through some generational times in the long and storied history of St. Helena’s. New and emerging ministries, growing existing ministries, expanded outreach opportunities, expanded Bible Studies, increasing attendance, and master plans for campus expansion and renovation, are all just a few of the outward signs of the health and vibrancy of our congregation. Our future is bright and I can’t wait to see what tomorrow brings!

Erica Johnson

CLASS OF 2027

Why I’m Excited

I am so excited about leading our church forward because the church is positioned for the challenge of substantial community growth with strong and enthusiastic clergy leadership and a unified purpose among the vestry team. I believe this time to an historical time at St Helena’s.

BOB MYER

TREASURER

Why I’m Excited

I’m excited for the active leadership across our church community – from youth to seniors and everyone in-between. It truly feels like we’re one family, learning from each other and growing together in God’s grace.

CLASS OF 2027

Why I’m excited

I am married to Kenneth Maxymof and we have two adult children, Heidi and Rachel, and two grandchildren, Kendall and Jacob. We moved to Boerne, shortly after we were married and joined St. Helen’s in October of 2021. We went to Israel in 2022 with so many wonderful people from St. Helena’s. I joined the Altar Guild in 2023 and I am a member of the Freebirds, and helped with Pied Day! I also enjoy painting with some very lovely people in Art Haas. I helped with the Walk in Bethlehem in 2022 and was the Props Manager for Bethlehem in 2023. I am not only excited, but honored to be nominated to serve on St. Helena’s Vestry. I am amazed by the growth, goodness, and faith that St. Helena’s provides and strives to provide to our community. I am committed to sharing my life’s experiences and God given talents to assist in the growth of our congregation and broadening all our experiences to live life fully while sharing in deeper faith!

CLASS OF 2027

Why I’m Excited

I’m excited to serve on the vestry and to see our Boerne home area and St. Helena’s Episcopal Church continue to grow and prosper.  For over 26 years, St Helena’s has been the central spiritual base for My Family and arguably the most steady asset to this City for a century.  Our growth in support of community, as evidenced by our successful programs including youth, teen, young adult, seniors, community, women, men, family, school, nursery, camp,  spiritual journey,  outreach missions, AA and many other groups within and beyond our community, etcetera – all supported by a small frugal and untiring staff and clergy.

Our Mission Statement says it all about our future:  We the Family of St. Helena’s, Empowered by the Holy Spirit, Welcome all God’s Children to Grow with us in Grace and Proclaim the Good News of Jesus Christ.

These are simple glorious words of hope, love and faith to live by!

CLASS OF 2026

Why I’m Excited

As a new member and a new member of the Vestry I am excited to be at St. Helena’s in 2023. As Father David said in his sermon last week, during these times of unrest, the inclusion and peace at St. Helena’s and the Episcopal Church are needed. I am thankful that we, sitting in the heart of Boerne, have the opportunity to do this work for the Kingdom of God in our city. I look forward to opening our doors wide for all who will be coming.

Steven Tye

CLASS OF 2027

Why I’m Excited

I moved to Boerne in 2011 to teach high school at Geneva School of Boerne. I started a driving school in 2016, foolishly thinking it would be a small part-time side hustle. It’s now my full-time gig. My beautiful Canadian wife of 21 years helps run the company, when she’s not working as a massage therapist. We have three children: Mae (13), Katherine (11), and Owen (5) that keep us very busy. The Tye family has attended St. Helena’s since 2020. I am excited to be part of the leadership of this growing church.

ADAM GROENHUYZEN

Why I’m Excited

I’m excited to be a part of guiding St. Helena’s through an important time of growth. The Church has always felt like an extended family to me and has helped us through some tough times, and so I want to make sure that it continues to be a rock and source of comfort to members both new and old.

SARAH DAVIS

CLASS OF 2025

Why I’m Excited

The congregation at St. Helena’s is a growing family.  God is assembling so many lovely souls together here with different gifts, experiences, resources and personalities.  It is a great pleasure to see everyone gathered and contributing in the ways God has ordained. He is at work in and through St. Helena’s in big and small ways, both within the Church body and the surrounding community. I am grateful to get to see all of it and be part of much of it, from A Walk Through Bethlehem, to VBS, to the 7:45am service on the rare occasions when I get up that early.

CLASS OF 2023

Why I’m Excited

I’m eager to serve because St. Helena’s is home for me and my family, and we have benefited greatly from the leadership, people and love we have received here.  It is an honor to serve and hopefully benefit future generations who will worship and grow in this place.  And, I am truly excited about the future: the growth and impact of our church in the growing community of Boerne, and the missionary spirit that is challenging our youth and church to push out even further to benefit this world.

AMY PURCELL

Why I’m Excited

I’m excited to serve on the vestry because the peace of Christ is palpable at St. Helena’s and the community is rich in grace and kindness to all. The growth we are experiencing is a witness to Boerne that St. Helena’s provides a safe place to learn to follow, serve and worship Christ.
